Dear Compassionate Friends,

Although snow is on the ground, spring is in the air! I absolutely love spring as it brings warmth and flowers and if we are fortunate, we will get the spring showers. Spring is a time of new beginnings and fresh starts - for everything and everybody.

To assist my new beginnings, I started a cleansing juice fast and am on day 20 of my 21-day fast. I feel great and have become more aware of the eating HABITS I got into while I was recovering from my accident. I haven't done any strenuous exercising during my fast, but did try to get regular walks when it wasn't too cold, My skin is clear, my eyes are bright and I am happy to report I have dropped 19 pounds of the 25 pounds I gained during my recovery. I can hardly wait to start running again and lifting weights to get myself back in shape.

I am also pleased to announce that I will be opening my private massage therapy practice on April 1st at 2640 W 28th Avenue in Denver, Colorado. Find out about the monthly specials. I greatly appreciate the education I received at the Colorado School of Healing Arts Colorado School of Healing Arts. I am especially grateful to all of my friends who so willingly donated their body to science.

The Two Compassionate Hands Newsletter, like the website, is dedicated to healing the planet one person at a time. This and future issues will contain articles on physical, environmental, and spiritual health - and more. Detox Diet: Juice Fasting Recipes

By Sandra Kim Leong

Juice fasting is gaining popularity as a great way to detoxify. Many people are interested in getting toxins out of their system so they can live a healthier life. When toxins accumulate in the body, they feel sluggish and also have a poor immune system. Juice fasting, as a cleansing method, can help to people to achieve better health and more energy. It is quite easy to do as fruits are readily obtainable and all that is required additionally is a juicer.

For a beginner to juice fasting, it is important to start out slow and to try it out for one day. By juice fasting, you are limiting your intake to juices only. Fruit juice is high in sugar, so if you are a diabetic or otherwise in need of monitoring your sugar intake you should be cautious of trying a juice fast with fruit juices. Anyone just starting out with fasting should always speak with their doctor first. Also, do not juice fast for prolonged periods like more than 3 days, not unless your doctor agrees that it is safe for you to do so.

The following are sample recipes that can help give you an idea of combinations of fruits and vegetables to use together:

Recipe 1: Vegetable Juice Combo
2 Swiss chard leaves
1/2 beetroot
2 or 3 sprigs of watercress
3 carrots
1 celery stalk
Wash with filtered or distilled water, cut and put in juicer.

Recipe 2: Carrot-Apple Juice
2-3 Green Apples
1 carrot
Fresh basil leaves
Wash with filtered or distilled water, cut and put in juicer.

Recipe 3: Carrot-Vegetable Juice
A handful of dandelion leaves
1 kale leaf
4 carrots
Fresh mint, basil or coriander leaves
Wash with filtered or distilled water, cut and put in juicer.

Recipe 4: Peach Juice
2 or 3 peaches
Wash with filtered or distilled water, cut and put in juicer.

There are many different types of juice fasts. Some diets call for fruit juices while others used less sugary vegetable juices. You can always come up with your own unique combination of fruit and vegetable juice diet recipes.

How To Keep Stress At Bay When There's No Time For A Break

By Liz Labrum

Taking exercise helps us get back in touch with reality, it grounds us and releases tension and feel-good endorphins. However tough deadlines don't always allow for a break from our desks so what can you do when you need to work at your maximum and keep your mind sharp?

When you are straining your brain over some task or problem the neurons of your brain function more intensely. As they do this, they build up toxic waste products that can cause foggy thinking. You know that feeling you get when your mind just seems to be like 'cotton wool'? Can you afford to operate like this?

At its very worst, not doing any form of exercise can lead to depression, neck and back problems and there is evidence that illnesses such as IBS either start with or are exacerbated by allowing tension to build up.

By exercising, you speed the flow of blood through your brain, moving these waste products faster. You also improve this blood flow so that even when you are not exercising, waste is eliminated more efficiently.

But of course you don't have the time to take exercise. Well you think you don't. But you could fool yourself into doing exercise regularly by sneaking it in to your life. Here's how.

If you are sitting at your desk now, take a deep breath in and let it out like a sigh. Feels better already, doesn't it?

Hands Up.

Sit up and making sure your feet are flat on the floor, raise your arms straight up and join your hands together with your arms as near to your ears as possible. And stretch; really S-T-R-E-T-C-H. Release your arms now and relax. Repeat at least twice.

Flopsey-Wopsey.

Swing your chair away from your desk, kick your shoes off. Start with a deep breath in, take your arms over your head, and slowly with a flat back, fold yourself over whilst exhaling and flop down with your arms dangling to the floor and just rest there. Your back will thank you and your brain will experience the benefits of blood and oxygen. (Pretend you're looking for a pen or something if you think everyone's looking, but chances are they're so involved with worries they won't notice.) Now come up and take a few more calming breaths. Repeat as you feel the need.

Let's Twist.

Body twists are good if you're feeling blue, anxious or fearful. (Explore yoga if you want more benefits.)

Sit on the edge of your chair with left side facing the back of the chair. Your feet and knees are together and need to stay that way throughout the pose. Place your hands on the back of the chair or as near to it as you can get. Keep your feet and knees together. Take a deep breath in, allow you shoulders to rest downwards as you do. Exhale and twist your upper body round to your left to look behind you and go as far as is comfortable. Keep your face aligned with your chest. When twist to the left push with your right hand and pull with your left. Repeat the other side.

Now I bet you're feeling better, feeling brighter and more 'up for it'? Are you not?

Having got a taste for exercise capitalise on it and start thinking how you can build more walking into your day. A walk at lunch time, walking up stairs instead of taking the lift or escalator, a walk around the office or to someone else's office. There are countless ways for you to do this. Act now, because as you do more you create the habit and your mind will present more opportunities for you to take an exercise break and you will find that you want to do longer, regular forms of exercise.

Speed Up Your Success By Slowing Down

And finally if like most people you always tend to be in a hurry, rushing from one place to another and not really spending much time sitting down and clearing your mind. You may find that when you have to perform, for example by giving a presentation, that your mind goes into panic. Now, a good way to avoid this kind of response is just slow down a bit and think things through, visualising a positive outcome for yourself. You will find this very calming and a practical way to train your mind and body to give you what you want.

Here is a technique to get you on the fast track to success :

Simply take a long slow breath in through the nose, gently hold it for a count of four and then let the breath out as if sighing slowly. Try it now . . . . . feel the difference it makes with just one breath. Now try two more and with each out breath say the word 'relax' to yourself. Notice how you can slow down, allow any thoughts to pass, imagine they are like clouds floating by on a windy summer's day.

Turn your attention to b-r-e-a-t-h-I-n-g ... In ... and... out.

Now how do you feel? How easy was that?

Add Flowers To Your Life And Give Your Diet A Boost

By Wesley Berry

Did you know that adding flowers to your life could actually help your diet to be successful? No, I don't mean you should eat the flowers-although there certainly are some edible species. But, by simply placing flowers around your home, you could actually boost your mood, and thereby have more success in your weight loss goal.

It's no big secret that most of us find ourselves with our heads in the refrigerator and our hands in the cookie jar more often when we are experiencing significant stress in our lives. The result of those late night forages and stress-eating habits is an expanding waistline.

A recent 10 month study conducted by Rutgers University, the State University of New Jersey, provided scientific proof that flowers have a very real, positive impact on our emotional health. The study showed that:

* Flowers have an immediate effect on happiness.

* The positive impact of flowers is long lasting.

* Flowers help people to connect.

According to Dr. Jeannette M. Haviland-Jones, who directed the Rutgers University study, "Flowers bring about positive emotional feelings in those who enter a room. They make the space more welcoming and create a sharing atmosphere."

Fresh flowers placed around your home will improve your mood and reduce your stress, making you less likely to reach for food to boost your happiness. Consider placing a beautiful bouquet or arrangement in the room of your house where you exercise. Seeing the flowers will bring a smile to your face and may help motivate you to keep up your exercise routine. Also, place the flowers in rooms that you spend most of your time in, such as your living room, kitchen, and bedroom.

Scientific studies show that certain colors have an impact on our feelings. To give your flowers some added power over the stress in your life, choose calming colors like cool blues. Your florist can help you choose color combinations and arrangements that will have the best positive affect.

Like surprises? Call up your florist to order a surprise arrangement for yourself. Now, of course the day and time of the delivery won't be a surprise, but you can ask your florist to surprise you with an arrangement. Simply tell him or her how much you'd like to spend, provide a little information about your favorite flowers and colors, and ask the florist to surprise you with the rest. When the flowers arrive at your door, the end result will be a delightful surprise that will bring a smile to your face and immediately reduce any stress you might be experiencing... and you'll have to take your hand out of the cookie jar to answer the door!

Lovin' Your Goals Yet

By Mary Foley

I bet you've heard time and again that if you want to create a successful life, career, or business, you'd better start liking goals. Make goals. Post goals. Follow your goals. Goals, goals, goals, it all sounds so disciplined and draining.

Don't get me wrong, I love achieving things that are important to me. Without goals, I couldn't have gotten this far. But I needed a new way of looking at goals that didn't make me tired already.

So, I thought to myself, "Mary, when do you move into action without hesitation, when you're so motivated you just do it?" Ah, that was easy. When I really love what I'm doing and am having fun!

Then I read this by neurologist Donald Calne:

"The essential difference between emotion and reason is that emotion leads to ACTION while reason leads to conclusions."

A brain doctor is saying that the thing that motivates us to action is emotion! Not a list of intellectual reasons why we should get off our duff.

My translation: LOVE and FUN must be well baked into creating and accomplishing my goals if I want to make them happen!

With that perspective, I determined what GOALS really stands for:

Go
Out
And
LOVE
Someone or Something!

That's right, LOVE!! Achieving stuff isn't worth your time and energy if you're not passionate about it. Let's get excited again about our businesses, our careers and our lives! If you're not, forget any other goals; they really don't matter. Make your goal to determine what it is that you really care enough to do to get up in the morning and get going.
