Dear Compassionate Friends,

I hope you are all enjoying the summer and the adventures you are having. I have been fortunate this year to be able to spend time with family members, who came to Denver for the very first time. Dare I say they loved it and are considering a move west ? Last week I picked up my six-year old granddaughter, and we took a 5-day adventure across Nebraska; it was great fun. There is so much to see and do in Nebraska, I would recommend it to everyone. In planning for my trip, I discovered Google Earth. If you haven't seen it, check it out. It's awesome and it's free! I also used Yahoo Travel.

Colorado offers so many opportunities for enjoing the warmer summer months. We have the many parks and lakes right here in Metro Denver, as well as the mountain parks and trails on both sides of the continental divide. I hope you all have a wonderful adventure; get out there and enjoy the summer!

The Two Compassionate Hands Massage Therapy and Wellness Center are now offering more classes. In September, the Womens' Support and Empowerment Group will begin on Thursday the 13th and meet every other week. Emotional Freedom Technique classes are offered monthly. Reiki level I practioner class is a 9-hour training that begins on September 26th with a free 45 minute introduction to Reiki. Level II and Master level classes will be offered in the future. The Essential Oils for Wellness Workshop , taught by nationally known educator, author, and somatic therapist, Roberta "Ruby" Gibson, will be held on November 3, 2007. Space is limited so register early.

The Two Compassionate Hands Newsletter, like the website, is dedicated to healing the planet one person at a time. This and future issues will contain articles on physical, environmental, spiritual health, and more. We look forward to bringing you relevant information that will aid you on your path to optimal health and peace. Please let us know what would be most helpful to you and your family.

Reiki, A Powerful Tool For Mind, Body And Spirit

 By Mona Khalaf

The interest in alternative medicine is growing rapidly today. Among the huge number of healing methods available, Reiki has become very popular around the world, especially since science has verified the existence of the universal life energy that Reiki is based on. Reiki is a powerful holistic healing system; it heals on all levels, physical, mental, emotional and spiritual.

So what is Reiki? Reiki is the Japanese word for Universal Life Force Energy. It is a very simple method that uses universal life energy, the energy which permeates our entire universe and all living things. This universal life energy is called qi or chi in China, prana in India, and ki in Japan and this is where the Reiki name derives. It circulates throughout the body and in an energy field surrounding the body. This energy field, long been known to healers and mystics, is now verified by scientists. Recent scientific experiments have verified the existence of this life force energy. Scientists have proven that everything in the universe, at a sub-atomic level, is made up of energy. Health is the harmonious flow of life energy, while imbalances in this flow, due to unhealthy habits or negative emotions lead to illness. So this subtle energy is responsible for the processes in our body on all levels: physical, emotional and mental. Reiki is channeled through the hands of the practitioner into the body of the receiver and balances the energy flow in the body.

Reiki is a holistic healing system, i.e. it addresses the whole person: the physical, mental, emotional and the spiritual levels. The body is not made up of parts to be fixed, but an amazing and complex web of energy, and in order to truly return to health, all the levels of our being must be addressed.

Reiki works on four different levels:

The physical level: Reiki strengthens the immune system. It helps to relive pai. It balances and harmonizes the function of glands and organs. It heals by opening the blocked energy channels, the meridians, and balances the chakras. With continuous practice, good health and well-being is maintained.

The emotional level: Reiki reduces stress and improves relaxation; this in turn strengthens the immune system and maintains health. Reiki clears energy blockages and suppressed emotions.

The mental level: Reiki enables the person to become more positive and reach a different outlook on life. You feel more empowered and find it easier to overcome obstacles and achieve goals.

The spiritual level: Reiki enables you to feel more connected to your higher self. It aids meditation, increases intuition and provides limitless benefits of spiritual growth.

Reiki is so simple yet so powerful, and this is what makes it a unique healing system that anyone can learn, because it does not require any previous experience or special ability. The Benefits of Reiki are infinite. It enables you to take an active part in your own wellness, and increases your growth on all levels.

Daily Weight Loss Motivation

By Ben Sather

When you are faced with the daily challenge of trying to lose weight, you will need to find ways to stay motivated every day. The factors that keep weight loss motivation high include your specific goals, your ability to envision what you want to achieve, and the degree of success you have in the beginning.

Daily motivation requires a special, concerted effort, and it is not always easy. One great way to keep weight loss motivation high is to find an Internet support group to check in with every day. There are many such chat groups and forums on the web.

Another idea is to keep a daily journal of your progress, struggles and success. You can keep a record of your daily diet or write in your journal about the journey and challenge of losing weight and the emotions connected to it.

Weight loss motivation will stay fresh with something tangible that you can look at to remind you of your goals. For example, you can tape a picture of yourself when you were at a more ideal weight to your refrigerator door. You can buy an outfit in your ideal size and hang it in your closet where you will see it every day. There are many books filled with affirmations and inspiration for dieters. Buy one, and read a bit of it every day.

The motivation to lose weight may not come from the same place every day. If you can develop some strategies for keeping your daily motivation high, you are much more likely to be successful and bounce back quickly if you have any setbacks. Whatever you ultimately see as your motivation for losing weight, you do not have to face the challenge alone.

There are resources and people available for anyone who takes the time to seek them. Make a daily commitment to do at least one thing in support of your goal, and you may soon find that the behaviors that support weight loss have become second nature to you!

Bring Enlightenment To Your Environment

By Linda Gray

Most self-help studies stress the need to create a perfect environment to be able to live a "successful" life. From the most famous celebrities to the most celebrated politicians, and all of us mere mortals in between! To be truly happy, therefore fulfilled and so able to share and give to our fellow humans, environment is crucial.

Whether it's a city street, a rural farm or a Hollywood stage, finding the environment that suits your character can be a lifelong search, so the journey must be enjoyed.

To be truly successful, happy, wealthy and wise, draw on all things natural around you and create a stress-free environment.

Get in touch with nature and re-assure yourself that the natural world will carry on no matter what. Draw from the creativity of a flower growing, a vegetable being formed, insects oblivious to what's on TV tonight, and water flowing over naturally formed rocks.

Try an experiment... spend a full half hour or more alone in a forest or next to the sea, or failing that, a park where you won't be disturbed. Make sure you feel safe from wild animals and humans (!) - and just let your mind wander, allow your thoughts to flow freely, call it meditation time if you need an excuse to spend some time on your own. Just enjoy and allow your thoughts to wander free and your imagination to leap into fantasies if you feel the need.

Draw from the enlightened natural energies around you and absorb the power... Got it? Great - now go home and create your own little bit of nature in your world.

Advancements in technology means food can be grown in a very small space indoors under lights if necessary. So, not having a garden isn't an excuse anymore. To fit an indoor growing system does require a little cash so you can always use that as an excuse if you want to find one!. However, the materials and set-up of a basic hydroponics system is little more than the cost of a few regular garden tools, so the choice is yours.

A balcony or roof garden can be used to grow all sorts of container plants. Most veggies and flowers will grow in containers and once set up, there is little maintenance and lots of time to enjoy the plants and absorb the creativity of it all.

If you have a garden available, the choices are so vast you can get lost in the whole garden thing. A lawn is easy and needs mowing every week or so, but apart from the exercise, this type of garden isn't fulfilling it's potential. Grow some flowers, vegetables or herbs. Create a theme or build a water feature.

Plan your garden before you start, then you'll be able to iron out any problems before they stress you out. Work out what you want to plant, what you need, and organise your time so you can spend a little time every day with your natural environment....enlightenment will follow naturally!

Diagnosing Illness In Your Dog

By David Faulkner

As a dog owner, there are a variety of sicknesses that you will have to worry about dealing with during their lifetime. There are a lot of different things you will have to worry about, from viral infections to metabolic infections to other things. Diagnosing illness in your dog correctly can be the difference between life and death for your pet, and there are a variety of ways physicians go about diagnosing illness in your dog.

Blood tests are the way that veterinarians usually diagnose health problems in your dog. Distemper, hepatitis, herpes, and heartworm are all health issues that your dog can be afflicted with that can be diagnosed through the use of blood tests. Whether you are looking for a parasite or evidence of a parasite, it is possible to detect dog illnesses through inspection of a dog’s blood content.

Examining the urine of a potentially sick dog is also an effective way to diagnose illness in your dog. There are a whole host of diseases that can be diagnosed through checking out the dog’s urine and many times this is a procedure that can be completed right on the same site as your veterinarian. Presence or absence of certain sugars, proteins, and waste can be the indicator of infections in certain parts of the body including the kidneys; many times a catheter must be used to extract the urine directly from your pet’s bladder as they want a fresh sample, untouched by anything else.

In addition to urine analysis, fecal analysis is another reliable way of detecting illnesses and parasites in your dog’s system. Hook worms, tape worms, and other things are able to be detected through close inspection of your pet’s waste matter. In addition, any problems that affect the proper digestion of your pet’s food are able to be detected through inspection of fecal matter. For more info see http://www.aboutdoghealth.org/doghealthproblems/dog-urine-lawn-care.html on dog urine in lawn

Urine and fecal analysis are the most commonly used methods of diagnosing illness in pets, both cats and dogs. They are needed to properly and accurately diagnose illness in dogs, and they are not cheap by any means. However, there are few other reliable ways to diagnose illness in dogs with any certainty. Otherwise, medications will be given out on what a veterinarian may believe to be true and their beliefs will not always be the case. Prescribing unnecessary medications can hurt your dog, so to eliminate this problem you should be sure to order the proper tests.
